2020 Bear Seasons

The bag limit for black bears in Tennessee is one bear per license year. Cubs, or sows with cubs by their side, are off-limits. Cubs are defined as bears weighing less than 75 lbs. All harvested bears, whether field-dressed, quartered, boned out, or whole, must weigh at least 75 lbs. at check-in.

Archery: The archery season for black bear is open in all four hunt zones, as well as the transitional zone, from September 26 through October 23. No dogs are permitted. For Zone Four and the Transitional Zone, this is the only bear season. 

Gun Season, No Dogs: A gun hunt with dogs not permitted is open November 21-24 in Bear Hunt Zones 1, 2 and 3.

Young Sportsman Hunt: A youth hunt with dogs not permitted is open October 31-November 1 in Bear Hunt Zones 1, 2 and 3.

Dog Season, Bear Hunt Zone 1: Gun season is open October 3-5, October 10-11, November 9-16, and November 30-December 16. 

Dog Season, Bear Hunt Zone 2: Gun season is open October 10-13, October 16-18, November 2-6 and November 30-December 24. 

Dog Season, Bear Hunt Zone 3: Gun season is open from October 3-4, October 10-16, November 2-6, November 20-December 13, and December 31-January 3.
